The Pageant of Peace

It's time for our Washington DC Gift Shop Annual Pageant of Peace Sale and that means it's time to get presents for your family and friends. There is nothing more Washingtonian than the National Christmas Tree lighting and the Pageant of Peace. After the lighting of the National Christmas Tree and Menorah our staff gets busy sending out orders throughout the world. Make sure to use our promotional code "PEACE" in the checkout cart.

The annual National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will start the holiday season on Thursday, December 3, at 5:00 pm on the Ellipse of the White House. Marking the start of month-long festivities known as the Pageant of Peace.

Abraham Lincoln and The Emancipation Proclamation

Abraham Lincoln push to ending slavery was centered on the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. Although it was not a law passed by Congress, Lincoln used is constitutional authority as commander in chief of the armed forces to give the U.S. Army the power to protect escaped slaves and encourage all states to outlaw slavery.

Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation was the backbone to the December 1865 ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment making slavery illegal throughout the United States.
