August 28, 1963

After Martin Luther King's famous "I Have a Dream" speech at the Lincoln Memorial, President John Fitzgerald Kennedy met with organizers of the "Civil Rights March on Washington D.C." in the White House.

This day is credited as the turning point that help pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Three months later President Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963. Five years later Reverend King was assassinated on April 4, 1968.
